When you find your childhood was no place for a child…

On each page of my story, my heart has been poured out. Teachers, pediatricians, nurses, and all first responders need to know what danger some kids face behind closed doors and parental smiles. Childhood should be a time of nurturing and growth not abuse and neglect. Signs aren’t always manifested in an unkempt appearance or attention seeking behavior.

Sometimes it’s appears in the well dressed, articulate child. It’s not always just the poor child who is deprived of basics necessities which stretch beyond food, clothes, and shelter. In the late evening of school nights, late night hours of weekends, and day and night during vacations, kids should be protected from those who target and make sport of abusing others. There is a growing number of adults who thrive off seeing pain and fear reflected in submissive eyes.

Read here a gentle account of one such survival. Know that the story doesn’t stop here; but transforms to one of healing and advocacy.
